Although, the tournament has a new name, the State Championships will still take place, they will now be one of several events on Sunday and are open to all residents of Maryland and Washington DC. The format is singles 501, for both men and women, in single elimination play over the best of 3 legs. Some past State Champions have gone on to represent the US in international play and indeed are now playing professionally.
Originally known as The Maryland State Championships and organized by BADA, Baltimore Area Darting Association, one of the 30 founding member associations of the ADO,American Dart Organization, in 1976.Since the dissolvement of BADA the tradition of organizing the annual tournament has been kept alive by The Central Maryland Dart league. Since it's inception in 1990 the tournament has raised over $50,000 for various charities, the 2008 benefiting charity will be the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of the Mid-Atlantic
