Realizing the need to create a better environment for dart players at this years tournament, Central Maryland Dart League has formed a new organizing committee. The committee have moved the event to a hotel location, where players can "play and stay", we want to make it a better experience for our local shooters and attract more out of state players. We also realize the need for better on time bracket calling and organization and are in discussions with several very experienced people for this.

This years organizing committee decided to rename the tournament The 2008 Maryland Open, which better reflects the overall spirit of the dart tournament in terms of the players who attend, it is not just local darters from Maryland, but players from all over the United States and ...

The 2008 tournament will be held in a hotel hall environment which will enable all dart shooters and their guests to "play and stay" in one location. The organizers are pleased to announce The Holiday Inn of Laurel, as the new tournament location and have agreed special player discounted room rates. state championships...

Although, the tournament has a new name, the State Championships will still take place, they will now be one of several events on Sunday and are open to all residents of Maryland and Washington DC. The format is singles 501, for both men and women, in single elimination play over the best of 3 legs. Some past State Champions have gone on to represent the US in international play and indeed are now playing professionally.

Originally known as The Maryland State Championships and organized by BADA, Baltimore Area Darting Association, one of the 30 founding member associations of the ADO,American Dart Organization, in 1976.Since the dissolvement of BADA the tradition of organizing the annual tournament has been kept alive by The Central Maryland Dart league. Since it's inception in 1990 the tournament has raised over $50,000 for various charities, the 2008 benefiting charity will be the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of the Mid-Atlantic
